Fellowship Program

The CAAE Fellowship Program offers awards to recognize and train senior, mid-level and new alumni relations professionals at CAAE member institutions. CAAE provides funding, mentoring and general support to emerging leaders at a CAAE Member Institution to accelerate a big idea through this program. Fellows are expected to create a final work product that will be presented to the membership at the CAAE Winter Institute. Candidates may select from a menu of ideas provided by CAAE or submit a unique topic to the selection committee for consideration. All final presentations, papers or projects must support one or more of the overarching purpose statements.



Purpose

Build research and knowledge to inform the profession

Support CAAE’s desire to further professionalize the field of alumni relations through benchmarking and further developing industry standards and theory

Pursue CAAE’s commitment to further develop priority areas of research

Further support a CAAE member institution to grow a specific program in a particular area

Robert G. Forman Fellowship

Background

CAAE established the Forman Fellowship to encourage the advancement of high-potential, senior professionals into chief alumni relations officer positions. The fellowship is named in honor of Robert G. Forman, the founding president of CAAE and the president emeritus of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. 

Eligibility

Applicants must have five or more years of professional experience in alumni relations at a CAAE member institution or senior-level experience at another organization.

Fellowship Package

Forman Fellows will receive up to $3,500 to cover research-related expenses as well as hotel and travel costs for participation in the CAAE Winter Institute. One Forman Fellow will be awarded per year.

Jerry F. Tardy Fellowship

Background

CAAE established the Tardy Fellowship to encourage the advancement of junior professionals into senior alumni relations officer positions. The fellowship is named in honor of the late Jerry F. Tardy, president and CEO of the Indiana University Alumni Association, who served as a great advocate of the alumni profession and a mentor to numerous colleagues throughout his career.

Eligibility

Applicants must have two to five years of experience in alumni relations at a CAAE member institution.

Fellowship Package

Tardy Fellows will receive up to $2,000 to cover research-related expenses as well as hotel and travel costs for participation in the CAAE Winter Institute. One Tardy Fellow will be awarded per year.

Lawrence S. Preo Fellowship

Background

CAAE established the Preo Fellowship to recognize and support entry-level professionals who have promising careers in alumni relations. The fellowship is named in honor of Larry Preo, former executive director of the Purdue University Alumni Association, who served as CAAE’s first executive administrator.

Eligibility

Applicants must be entry-level professionals with up to five years of experience in alumni relations at a CAAE member institution.

Fellowship Package

Preo Fellows will receive up to $2,000 to cover research-related expenses as well as hotel and travel costs for participation in the CAAE Winter Institute. One Tardy Fellow will be awarded per year.
