Based on a Q&A-style interview developed by the CAAE Communications Committee, we're pleased to present this month’s spotlight of new member Laurence A. Bolotin (Loyola University Chicago), compilation courtesy of Raphe Beck (Oregon).

Name: Laurence A. Bolotin

Institution: Loyola University Chicago

Q: Are you new to alumni relations, new to your institution, neither, or both?

A: Neither and both. This is my first time at a university working in alumni engagement, but working with alumni and volunteers has been a core part of my career for the last 20 years.

Q: Best perk of the job so far?

A: It has been such a joy to work with a new and growing team. Having the chance to meet incredible alumni doing outstanding work for our world is the best perk one could ask for ... hanging out with Sister Jean is a close second.

Q: Biggest challenge so far?

A: While we have 152 years of history at Loyola, our alumni engagement area is much like a start-up, and that brings challenges. There is so much to do, but we can’t do it all at once.

Q: If you needed to, could you sing your school’s fight song and/or alma mater?

A: Depends how you define “sing.” If Julie Sina will do a duet with me to the Florida Gators Fight Song, I’m in!

Q: What would it surprise people to know about you?

A: I used to be beyond terrified of public speaking.

Q: Who would be your dream dinner guests?

A: The entire cast of “This Is Us.”

Q: When I’m not on the job, you’ll find me ...

A: You can find me on an airplane, at a sushi restaurant with my wife, walking around in the sun, or playing with my daughter.
